RESIDENT REFLECTION

Pat Gates shares why building a condo was an easy choice

For years, my husband and I lived in a two-story home on the shores of Lake Erie. We gradually came to realize that the house was too much for us. We needed help maintaining it, both inside and out. And as my husband was a bit older than I, it was very important to us that we could live someplace where help would be available when he was gone.

We had looked at other communities, but we and our children fell in love with Ohio Living Vineyard on Catawba even as we entered the campus. But there was a problem; there were five people on the waiting list for existing condos, and so we had no idea when one would be available. Then we learned that a condo could be built just for us.

First we chose our lot. Because we’d left the waters of Lake Erie, we chose a lot on the edge of the pond. Next we chose our floor plan. Then, we customized everything to make it truly our home. We selected paint colors, floor coverings, counter tops, window treatments, lighting and more. We also requested some interior structural changes to suit our lifestyle.

We moved in just six months after our plans were finalized. We now had a home with no steps – it was finally our own personalized home in a safe environment!

Best of all, the maintenance team takes care of everything. Outside they do the window washing, lawn mowing, snowplowing, trimming and more. Inside, they handle all repairs and maintenance of the condo and appliances. We have complete freedom from home upkeep, and time to live life our way!

What’s more, this is a wonderful neighborhood. There are walking trails, a putting green, and so many fun activities – you can choose any of them that appeal to you. You will meet your neighbors, but as you join in the activities you’ll come to know other residents as well. There are many activities here, but we also travel to other places in our area to enjoy golf, boating, and lunch or dinner out.

Would I recommend building a home here? You bet I would!
