Dr. Tiffany Hughes

Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology at YSU

Dr. Tiffany Hughes is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology at YSU. She has a Doctorate in Aging Studies and Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of South Florida. She also completed post-doctoral training on the epidemiology of dementia at the University of Pittsburgh.

Her research focuses on healthy aging through lifestyle factors. She is particularly interested in the association between physical, mental, and social engagement and cognitive impairment in later life. She is also interested in the intersection between cognition and mobility and fall risk among older adults.

At YSU, she teaches undergraduate and graduate students in the Gerontology and long-term care administration programs. She also involves these students in her research and other community service through coursework and the student organization she advises. Her goal is to help older adults maintain their independence, and educate students about aging so they can do the same.

At home, she is raising her 8- and 10-year-old boys with her husband of 16 years. You’re most likely to find her at a hockey rink cheering on all of them... yes, they all play (and two are goalies!)! Needless say, there is never a dull moment. She is grateful for the opportunity to speak about the needs of the aging community and the changing population as it relates to end-of-life care planning.
