Park Vista of Youngstown opened.

Dr. Paul Gauss, Pastor of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, diligently campaigned for the opening of a Presbyterian home for seniors in that region. When he approached Mrs. Moherman for the first donation toward a project in Youngstown, she pledged $8,000 with the condition that Methodists should be permitted to live in the first home as well as Presbyterians.
The first home was purchased from Mrs. James Gross for $80,000, though Park Vista quickly outgrew it. Two additional homes were purchased in the following 10 years, and all three were combined into one connected structure with an eight-bed nursing area and a dining area for 40 residents.
Even this combined building was quickly outgrown, and in 1969, ground was broken on a new building on Fifth Avenue that would accommodate 158 residents. The seven-story building featured one- and two-bedroom apartments, and an adjoining building would serve as a 100-bed nursing center. While Park Vista has enjoyed many expansions and additions in the years since, the location across from historic Wick Park in Youngstown has remained its permanent home.
