Swan Creek Retirement Community opened in Toledo.
In January 1988, the first of many gatherings about the possibility of opening an OPRS community in Toledo was held in a Holiday Inn. By June, a marketing staff had been hired and a full-scale model of an apartment at Swan Creek was able to be viewed. Prospective residents wanting more information were taken to Willoughby to tour Breckenridge Village’s North apartments.
Ground was broken in July 1989 for the first phase in a three-phase plan. The first phase, costing about $15 million, included the apartment building offering one-, two-, and three- bedroom suites, a dining room, library, activities space, adjacent enclosed garage, and beauty salon called the Silver Swan. It was dedicated May 21, 1992.
