2000 - SI Becomes Brand Name for HHH

When Breckenridge Village was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant in 1980, they used the funds to rent a store front office from which they could provide local seniors with services such as shopping, transportation, errands and companionship. Subsequent grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as from the Cleveland Foundation, allowed these services to expand to the Llanfair and Dorothy Love markets in the late 1980s.

During this time, leaders at Rockynol also began collaborating with local churches to form adult day care centers and eventually expanded to homecare services in the Akron area. Westminster-Thurber had launched Solutions in HomeCare in Franklin County, and both Mount Pleasant and Swan Creek had launched similar services in their local communities.

When Ohio Presbyterian Homes rebranded as Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services in 1986, it underscored the importance of providing services – not just homes – to seniors at every level of care. As a result, the 1998 OPRS strategic plan called for the establishment of community outreach services at all of its locations.

In 2000, the home- and community-based services throughout OPRS were unified under one name, Senior Independence.
