Ohio Living Caring Fund

THE CARING FUND

The Caring Fund has three parts: Helping Hands Fund, Hardship Assistance and Childcare & Elder Care Scholarships.

HELPING HANDS FUND


For employees experiencing immediate financial emergencies that threaten life, safety, or their ability to get to work.

Examples: food, gas, utility shut-off, emergency car repair, etc.

Eligibility

• Employees must have completed their provisional period to be eligible.

• Contingent employees and employees participating in unions are not eligible.

 

Application Process

• No application is required. Decision to award support is made by the local Executive Director and Human Resources Director.

• Employee in good standing without disciplinary action in the last 12 months.


Awards

• Maximum amount of support is $500 per year.

• Awards are subject to the availability of funds and are not considered taxable income.

• Funds are provided by the corporate office and donors.

HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE AND CHILDCARE & ELDER CARE SCHOLARSHIPS


For employees experiencing catastrophic events creating a financial hardship through no fault of their own.

Examples: medical emergency, natural disaster, fire, theft of property, increasing childcare costs, changes to current provider, new circumstances for backup care, etc.

Eligibility
• Employees must have completed their provisional period.
• Contingent employees and employees participating in unions are not eligible.
• The emergency must have occurred within six months of application.
• Ohio Living Breckenridge Village employees in need should reach out to human resources to access the donor-funded Support the Caregiver program.

Application Process
• Employee in good standing without disciplinary action in the last 12 months.
• Supporting documentation is required.
• Applications must be endorsed by the local Executive Director, who will then send the application to the Ohio Living Foundation (attention: Division Director of Foundation Finance and Administration).
• All requests and applications are confidential. Once the application reaches the Ohio Living Foundation, the employee’s personal information is removed to maintain confidentiality.
• The application is then forwarded to a committee, which consists of two to three non-management employees in various positions and two corporate employees.

Awards
• Awards are subject to the availability of funds and are not considered taxable income.
• Maximum amount of support is $5,000 per situation; no more than $5,000 per person in a rolling 12-month period.
• Funds are provided by the corporate office and donors.
