Moving Into the Future With Confidence: Solutions for stress caused by moving and health

We all experience stress in our lives, but there are certain events and even day-to-day situations that top the “Stress-Causers” list. Moving and health are typically at the top. When considering a move, there are so many aspects to think about and manage.

Examples include:
• Finding the right place to move
• Sorting through a lifetime of stuff
• Arranging for movers
• Selecting a realtor
• Staging your home for selling, while also living there
• Emotionally handling a life transition
• Starting fresh in a new place

Just reading the list may elicit negative emotions! But there are solutions. One of Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber’s signature programs is our annual “Best Move Yet –Moving Expo” workshop. We understand the moving process and have helped hundreds of retirees.

One of the points we emphasize is that moving later in life is dramatically different than the “last move.” As a matter of fact, we’ve found that the majority of attendees have not moved for 30 to 50 years.

This year’s three-hour Moving Expo is on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We invite you to join us to learn about:
• The emotional side of moving and how to embrace a transition
• Insights about selling a home in today’s real estate market

• Strategies on sorting through a lifetime of stuff
• Resources to help you manage a move

Since your future is determined by the choices you make today, attending our Best Move Yet – Moving Expo may be the best decision you make during this season of life. The program is designed to provide you with instruction, education and a host of moving resources. You’ll also have the chance to watch a few short presentations, enjoy lunch on us, and talk with professionals who can help when you’re ready to make your move.

Another top-stressor is health, especially in the retirement years. Unfortunately, there’s no fountain of youth that provides ongoing health and vitality, but we are proud to provide our residents with opportunities and resources to move into the future with confidence.

As a life plan community, we embrace the idea of whole-person wellness, which is why our community regularly practices the six dimensions of wellness: Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, Physical, Emotional and Vocational.

Although this is a large commitment, active planning and a partnership with our Resident Association allows us to successfully offer programming that consistently enriches residents’ lives.

Our weekly activities calendar is packed with opportunities! Recently, authors Kassie Rose, Robin Nesbitt and Nancy Kangas spoke for National Library Week. Many residents have joined our resident run committees, such as the Social, Landscape and Dining Services committees. Residents also participate in various Bible studies throughout the week to meet their spiritual needs.

Those who call Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber home can be as active or private as they’d like, but by participating in community activities, their self-esteem is strengthened as they continue to grow into their future.
