Women In History is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the education of all people through the dramatic re-creation of lives of notable women in history. With a passion for history and the women who are responsible for at least half of it, Women in History gives voice to some of the most stirring and inspiring stories that have gone untold for far too long. Through careful research and thorough study, the group has recreated riveting and entertaining life stories of some of the world’s most remarkable ladies.
Each account is presented in a costume that reflects the time period, in a first person, and in a most engaging way, that allows those in attendance to interact with her and find out who she really was and what daily life was like during her lifetime.
It would be hard to list all the biographies, novels, history books, poems, articles, historical sites, websites, TV specials, documentaries, and films that have been dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. His legacy seems eternal and he continues to be quoted by historians, politicians, artists, spiritual leaders, royalty, celebrities, teachers, and students around the world.
But while Abe has been all but canonized a saint, the same cannot be said for the woman he was married to for 23 years. Mary Todd Lincoln has been vilified, maligned, and misdiagnosed ever since first setting foot in Washington D.C. in 1847. And the speculation, scandal, and harsh criticism surrounding her life continues to tarnish her name today. While some of those harsh opinions seem to stem from fact…much of what we think we know about Mary is questionable at best and nothing more than flimsy fiction. So who was she really?
Maybe the question we should ask is this: What’s the story Mary would tell about herself? Well, that’s exactly the story you’ll hear on March 6th when Mrs. Lincoln honors us with her presence. No doubt she’ll share some intimate facts about her childhood, her relationship with her celebrated husband, her time as First Lady, the Civil War, her triumphs as well as the many tragedies that darkened her life from age 6 on.
You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity.
